How to Use the Whale Tea Pet
If you’ve unboxed your Pure Land Tea Set, you’ve probably noticed the little whale tea pet inside. You may have seen videos of these whales shooting water from their snouts, but there’s actually a method behind the magic. In this post, I’ll walk you through exactly how to make your whale spout, step by step—and explain the science behind why it works.

Step-by-Step Guide
1. Prepare cold water
Grab a cup, jar, or your gongdaobei and fill it with cold water. Cold is essential—warm water won’t work.
2. Boil fresh hot water
Bring water to a boil. It needs to be freshly boiled for the effect to work properly.
3. Heat the whale
Pour the boiling water directly over your whale teapet.
4. Submerge in cold water
Immediately place the whale into the cold water, making sure its little snout is completely underwater.
5. Wait a minute
Let it sit for about 60 seconds, allowing it to draw in the cold water.
6. Make it spout
Lift the whale back out and pour hot water over it again. Watch as the whale spouts water from its snout—your very own mini water show!
Why It Works
The first pour of boiling water pushes oxygen out of the hollow cavity inside the whale, creating a vacuum. When you plunge the hot whale into cold water, the vacuum pulls water inside through the snout. Then, when you pour hot water over it again, the heat forces that cold water back out—shooting it through the snout like a spout.
It’s a playful little demonstration of pressure and temperature change—and a fun way to bring life to your tea table.
